Module 1: MOSS Primer

This module provides an overview of MOSS. Specifically, in Module 1 you learn:

• Overview of the WSS and MOSS architecture
• Overview of the key elements in WSS such as Site Collections, Webs, Lists, and Web Parts
• Additional functionality available in MOSS
• Features that are implemented in MOSS publishing sites
• How to create a site with publishing features enabled

Module 2: WCM Fundamentals

This module covers how to use and administer a publishing site. The various settings, controls, security roles, and workflows that apply to publishing sites are discussed. Specifically, in Module 2 you learn:

• Site settings specific to publishing sites
• How to create a new page as a content author
• How to use the Page Editing Toolbar and Field Controls to edit a page
• How to approve and schedule a page as a content approver
• Workflows available in WCM to control the approval process

Module 3: Branding with Master Pages

This module discusses the important effect master pages have on branding your site. Specifically, in Module 3 you learn:

• Difference between a Site Master and System Master page in WCM
• How to customize a master page using CSS, delegate controls, and content placeholders
• Components that must be on a SharePoint master page
• How to create a master page using Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer 2007

Module 4: Custom Navigation

This module explains how to build custom navigation controls to provide unique navigation for your site. Specifically, in Module 4 you learn:

• How SharePoint leverages the ASP.NET 2.0 navigation provider model
• How to customize the out-of-the-box navigation controls
• How to create a custom navigation server control

Module 5: Page Layouts and Content Types

This module explains how page layouts and content types are used to piece together the templates used for your pages. Specifically, in Module 5 you learn:

• How to create site columns and content types
• How page layouts and content types interact
• How to create a page layout using Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer 2007

Module 6: Field Types and Field Controls

This module provides an introduction to field types and field controls. We also explain how field controls differ from Web Parts, and when each should be used. Specifically, in Module 6 you learn:

• How to work with field types and field controls in Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer 2007

Module 7: Web Parts

This module introduces you to the Web Parts that are only available in publishing enabled sites. We will also provide a basic introduction to creating your own custom Web Parts. Specifically, in Module 7 you learn:

• How to use WCM Web Parts
• How to customize WCM Web Parts to meet your requirements
• How to build a custom Web Part

Module 8: Content and Infrastructure Deployment

This module covers the various components of content deployment including how to set up content deployment. Specifically, in Module 8 you learn:

• Differences between deploying WCM content and MOSS infrastructure.
• How to deploy infrastructure using Features and Solutions
• How to deploy content using Content Deployment
• How to create Content Deployment paths and jobs
• How to use Quick Deploy

Module 9: Search

This module explains how to configure search for a WCM site. Specifically, in Module 9 you learn:

• How content types affect the findability of pages on your site
• How to schedule search crawls in the Shared Services Provider
• How to create and implement custom search scopes

Module 10: Extending the WCM Interface

This module explains how to customize the interface used by authors and editors when adding content through the browser. Specifically, in Module 10 you learn:

• How to modify the HTML editor field control
• How to customize the page editing toolbar

Module 11: Custom Workflow

This module shows how to build custom workflows to use in publishing sites. Specifically, in Module 11 you learn:

Module 12: Document Conversion

This module explains how to author content outside of the browser. You learn how to configure and create document converters so offline documents can be converted into pages in your site. Specifically, in Module 12 you learn:

Module 13: Performance Improvement Techniques

This module introduces the various performance enhancements included in MOSS and publishing sites. Specifically, in Module 13 you learn:

Module 14: Variations

This module introduces variations including how they are used in publishing sites. Specifically, in Module 14 you learn:

• How to load an alternate language pack
• How to configure variations to implement multilingual sites
• How to use Variation Labels
