Online Classes – Computer Requirements and Best Practices
For all labs to work, and to make the most of the event, you will need a computer
with the following items:
- 1. High-speed Internet access with a wired connection. Do not use a
wireless connection. Small interruptions in a wireless connection from
your location will cause problems connecting to the online servers.
- 2. Microsoft Office Live Meeting 2007 Client
This should be downloaded from
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/help/HA101733831033.aspx and installed in
advance of the event. When you connect to the Live Meeting for the first time you
will be asked to install this if it is not found on your computer. If you choose
not to, or are unable to install Live Meeting using the Microsoft Office Live Meeting
2007 Windows-based Meeting Console Standalone Installer, you can view the Live Meeting
via the web browser, without the Live Meeting Console functions. For the best experience
we recommend installing the Live Meeting Client. Please verify you have no corporate
networking or firewall issues that may prevent you from accessing a Microsoft Live
Meeting. The meeting invitation will be sent to you no later than 2 business days
prior to the first day of class.
- 3. Remote Desktop Connection
You will access the online lab environment via the remote desktop technology. Windows
XP and later come with this software. If you have an older Operating System Microsoft
has a free download available here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/tools/rdclientdl.mspx.
You will receive access the first day of class. Please verify that you have no corporate
networking or firewall issues that may prevent you from accessing our lab environment,
via Microsoft Remote Desktop. You will be contacted, the week before the event,
to confirm your connectivity.

For easier viewing of both the lab environment and the instructor's presentation,
we recommend a second monitor attached to your computer or a second computer (i.e.
a laptop).
